Do
you only photograph equestrian events?
We specialise in equestrian events because we know,
own and are involved with horses every day, but that
doesn't stop us covering other subjects. Please contact
us to discuss your requirements.

How
are the prints produced?
New
for 2007 all prints ordered online are now processed
at a professional laboratory using conventional photographic
printing techniques. This will take a few days longer
and will mean a slight increase in price, but the increased
quality is well worth the wait and expense. To offset
the price increase, we now offer unmounted photos at
the old prices. Mounts are still available as an optional
extra.
/\Top
How
long do the prints take to arrive?
Orders
are normally processed within seven to ten days. When
the prints are returned to us, they are sent out by
first class post. Directly after an event, delivery
make take slightly longer due to the increased workload,
please allow up to 21 days.

Why
are there no photos of the dressage at the last show?
When
at a show we try to cover as many rings, classes, jumping,
etc, but obviously can only be in one place at the time.
We do not charge an attendance fee, but rely on print
sales to cover costs, so do have to cover the events
which are most likely to result in print sales. Dressage
tests are a very time consuming events to cover which
can prevent us photographing several other events. If
time allows, or the organisers specifically ask in advance,
we would be happy to cover dressage.

I’m
sure that you took my photo, but I can’t find it?
Although
we used the latest equipment, unfortunately this does
let us down very occasionally. There are many reasons
why a photo doesn’t come out as expected, but the usual
reason being the auto focus losing focus of the subject
at the crucial moment. Obviously we can’t normally retake
the shot, so if this does happen, the photo is lost.
This happens to only a very small proportion of the
shots, but frustrating just the same if it is your shot
that is lost.

Why
did you choose that jump?
This
is one thing that the equestrian photographer at an
event can never get right! There is simply no way in
the world that everyone will be happy. The jump is always
too small, too big, wrong angle, the horses doesn’t
like logs, the horse doesn’t like tyres, the horse doesn’t
like coloured poles and so on. During an event, I
hear it all and it’s always the photographers fault.
I've even been told that the horse wouldn't go over
the jumps, because it didn't like the look of my lens.
We
will always try to select the best jump we can photographically.
This has to take into account the lighting and position
of the sun, the background as well as how well the horses
are likely to jump it. Many of the best or most spectacular
jumps are not good photographically, either hidden away
in woodland where there is no light or just impossible
angles to cover with a camera. We also try to select
a position where more than one jump is covered if possible
and without getting in the way or distracting the
horse or rider.
At
non competitive events, we have to select a jump or
jumps that will suit the majority. If there are a lot
of beginners, this will be the smaller jumps, which
obviously won’t suit the more experienced riders. If
you are an experience rider taking part in a sponsored
or fun ride, don’t complain that the jump is too small,
just ask us to photograph you over a bigger jump in
the vicinity.

Why
does the 10" x 8" file cost more than a print?
We
often sell more than one print. Purchasing the Jpeg
file, allows you to print as many copies as you wish
for personal use, friends & family. When we sell
a Jpeg file, we know that we are very unlikely to sell
further prints from that image and the price is a compromise
that reflects this.
/\Top
I
need the picture in a hurry, which is the fastest way?
The
fastest and by far the simplest way, is to order a Jpeg
file. These are normally supplied within 24hours by
Email, often much sooner.
/\Top
Last
year you had onsite printing at our local show, why
didn't you this year?
At
larger shows or events, we can offer a better service/coverage
by using two cameras instead of spending the time printing.
The greater number of photos taken also makes it very
difficult to offer efficient onsite printing, the majority
of people would rather view online than stand in a queue.
/\Top
How
long are the photos online for?
Photos
are normally online for around 12 months, after this
time they are removed from the website, but still available
by special order.
/\Top
How
do I view password a protected album?
We
are not at liberty to provide the access details of
private albums to anyone accept the event organiser.
The organisers is responsible for then passing the details
onto group members, parents, etc. Please contact the
event organiser directly.

Poor
light & bad weather conditions.
To
successfully photograph any kind of action, good light
conditions are very important. Obviously this is far
from guaranteed, but we will always do our very best
to cope/make the best of the conditions on the day.
If the light is particularly bad, we
may not be able to get as close to the action as we
would like using telephoto lenses, as these become impossible
to keep steady. We will also have to use a faster ISO
(film speed) which will add grain to the picture. Although
we will use the latest software to remove the effects
of the grain as far as possible, results will not be
as good as pictures taken on a well lit day. Flash photography
is always avoided near horses, but may be used for other
subjects.
Showers
or light rain are not really a problem, but heavy persistent
rain will prevent us taking photographs as this could
possibly damage the equipment. We will inform the event
organiser should this occur.
/\Top
Why
don't you cover more events?
Like
many other photographers it is not a full time job and
the photography has to be fitted in around full time
employment. The real job involves shift work which includes
weekends so we are not available to cover a lot of events.
If the dates are known long enough in advance or if
it is a regular event it is possible to take time of
to cover an event.
